We recognise that climate change is a big challenge and we accept that climate change has far reaching implications for the people who live in Newcastle. We also understand the need to do as much as possible locally to reduce its effects. Globe on hand

Newcastle has been crowned the most sustainable city in the UK for the second year running for our work in promoting and implementing a low carbon agenda.

Forum for the Future gave us this award for our range of activities to limit the negative impact the city has on the global environment. We are delighted to be recognised for our progress towards the city’s vision of transforming Newcastle by 2021 into a sustainable city with excellent air quality, low waste levels, low carbon emissions and high recycling rates.

The award also acknowledges our work to place the city at the forefront of electric vehicle developments both regionally and nationally, as well as our improvements in energy efficiency, recycling and waste management levels.

We aim to build on our existing achievements by working to reduce energy use in the city and increase the use of renewable technologies and sustainable transport. We are committed to move ahead with our Climate Change Strategy and the work of the city’s Climate Change Partnership.

We are committed to cutting the city’s carbon emissions and we hope that local residents and businesses can help us achieve even greater reductions and make our city a cleaner and greener placer to live.
